Building Business Credit as a Healthcare Professional

Starting a private practice or a side venture is a different kind of financial decision than anything most healthcare professionals have dealt with before. Personal credit got you through school, through your first apartment, maybe through your first home. Business credit is a separate system entirely, and it's one most clinicians never get taught, because nothing about training prepares you to think like a business owner.

Why business credit is its own thing

Business credit exists apart from your personal credit, tied to your business itself through an EIN rather than your Social Security number. Done well, it means your practice can build a credit history of its own, one that supports equipment financing, a business line of credit, or eventually a loan, without leaning entirely on your personal credit to carry it.

Done without a plan, it's easy to blur the two together in ways that create problems later, like using personal cards for business expenses or never separating the finances cleanly enough for a lender to make sense of them.

What this looks like early on

For a lot of healthcare professionals, the first steps toward business credit happen earlier than expected, sometimes before the practice has even opened its doors. Setting up the business properly from the start, keeping finances separate from day one, and understanding what a lender will eventually want to see all matter more in the early months than people realize.

Why we're building this out

This is a newer part of what we do, and we're building it specifically because we kept hearing the same question from clients further along in their careers: physicians ready to buy into a practice, dentists financing new equipment, nurse practitioners opening their own clinics. Personal credit strategy wasn't enough for what they were trying to do next.

Where to start

If a practice or business is somewhere in your future, even a few years out, it's worth having a conversation now rather than waiting until you're standing in front of a lender. The earlier the foundation gets built, the more options you'll have when it counts.

Have a question about what this could look like for you? That's what a consultation is for.
